Hi, my name is Marcus Sandberg and I work as an ARIS Tool Expert consultant at the consulting firm aRway. A major part of my work is to develop customized reports for ARIS customer. I personally find it interesting to read about other people's solutions on the ARIS community and I would like to contribute myself with examples of customized reports created for our customers. As a first example, I will share with you information about the customized report Attribute statistics.
Customer problem
The customer had for several years been using an increasing number of different attributes on both models, objects and relationships in ARIS and various projects had created custom attributes when necessary. In the end the result was unsustainable because it proved difficult to find among all the possible attributes and similar information was stored on several different attributes. To effectively be able to see how often all the different attributes was used a customize report was needed to create a overview of the use of different attributes with the aim to be able to remove rarely used and redundant attributes.
Our solution
To effectively get an overview of how the attributes are used a customized ARIS report was created for the customer. By running the report an Excel is created showing all the attributes of the ARIS server and how many times each attribute is used on objects, models and the relations in the ARIS database. Directly the report gave a good overview of the attributes and the customer could easily filter out attributes that are rarely used. The customer could then go through these attribute values and move them to attributes that are more used or remove redundant information. Meanwhile efforts to move the attribute values and deleting attributes the customer was able to follow the work by running the report regular and see how they rarely used attributes was removed. The report can also be used to create statistics on how the use of attributes change over time by running the report each month and then use these Excels as a basis to generate a graphic chart in Excel or Mash Zone.
